Introducing our August/September Vitrine Gallery artist, Rebekah Andrade. Rebekah is a member of our Akin King studios and her installation, 'Propositional Forms' will be on exhibit in our galleries located at 1485 Dupont and 1747 St. Clair Avenue West over the next two months.

Rebekah Andrade holds a BFA in Visual Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design and is currently completing a Graphic Design certificate, remotely, through Parsons School of Design in New York City.

“Through re-imagined environments and composed structures, my work explores the many definitions of the ideal form. My interest lies in our ways of shifting and manipulating concrete and ambiguous elements within our inhabited environments. I draw inspiration from observing our motivations and behaviour. Furthermore, channeling it through my negotiation process within the methods and boundaries of subject and medium. The neutral space that I create in allows the evolution of geometric combinations, application of paint and construction of shapes. Within my minimalistic approach of transitioning layers, ambiguous lines and contrasting palette reside harmonious moments. As I rethink my surroundings opportunities arise, allowing the work to become expressive, organically responding to both medium and subject matter. It is fundamentally important that the work stimulates the viewer to reconsider our definitions of the world in which we live.”

Akin Collective + Akin Projects are excited to present our 2018 programming in two Vitrine Galleries, one a recent addition to our St. Clair studios, and our original location at our Dupont studios. These miniature galleries will feature the diverse talent of our members with travelling installations rotating each month. Each artist will be featured for the first month at Dupont and second month at St. Clair. For more information about our artists and our programming, join us on Instagram @akinvitrine.

‘Propositional Forms’ will be on view for the month of August in our Dupont Akin Vitrine Gallery, located in the Clock Factory Building at 1485 Dupont Street (entrance on Campbell Avenue). Find Akin Studio 215 on the second floor and follow the sign into the hallway around the corner. The building is open from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

The exhibition will then travel to the Akin St. Clair Vitrine Gallery and be on view for the month of September at 1747 St. Clair Avenue West. Gallery is street level and can be viewed at any time.
